BIO
I am a filmmaker, artist, and multimedia designer based in New York City. The focus of my artistic practice is creating music- and documentary-based videos from an intersectional queer eco-feminist perspective. My films have been screened at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, Bushwick Film Festival, South by Southwest Film, and Los Angeles Center for Digital Art. In 2020, I won the Queering the Quarantine Challenge at OUTStream Film Festival. Currently, I am developing my first long form film project, experimental hybrid documentary Echo’s Answer. The short film version of this project won the Outstanding Sound award at the 2022 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. Echo’s Answer is fiscally sponsored by the International Documentary Association.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The videos and films I create come from a personal, even mystical place, but my ultimate artistic goal is always to connect with others. I cultivate healing spaces through my art, seeking to turn viewers into participants, encouraging them to be present and to think beyond the consumerist complacency of late stage capitalism.
I create in a meditative, almost trance-like state and subscribe to a process-driven philosophy. My video editing process is informed by my collage practice of arranging seemingly random images. I am led by my materials and my subconscious. I begin by compiling reference photos, videos, words, and sounds. I then shape these collections into forms that others can experience. Tapping into the power of nature is essential to my art-making process. Local ecology is a constant source of inspiration and sustainability is one of my guiding principles.
I invite the audience to engage mindfully with their inner lives and the world around them when they encounter my work. Through my work, I encourage participants to be more present than in their daily lives. By removing participants from the every day and transporting them to the dreamlike, magical, and immersive world of my art, I coax them into a heightened state of awareness. The dream logic of my works invites viewers to let go of the limits of reality and invites participants to navigate space, ideas, and objects in new and different ways.
